The Past Week

Wow!  It's hard to believe so much time has passed since Patrick last wrote.  I guess a week isn't a long time not to have a blog post, but it is when so much has happened!

Patrick spent Wednesday night at home with Connor, and the two of them came to pick Eamon and me up from the hospital on Thursday morning.  I was very anxious to see Connor and thought he must need me a lot, but I'm pretty sure I could have stayed at the hospital another day and he would have been fine.  I will probably do that next time, so I won't have two little boys jumping all over me for an extra day!
Wednesday before Patrick left.
Another one from Wednesday, before I took my shower.
We had gotten the suggestion from our doula to have Connor come to the hospital to take us all home.  Connor was happy to see me and asked to nurse while we were there.  He called Eamon by his name, though he still always calls him "baby Eamon."  He also whacked me on the stomach when we asked him where Eamon was.
First meeting of the brothers Jemison.
Eamon in his car seat with guard lion.
So sweet.
Posing before leaving the hospital.
At home with my new buddy.
Eamon has had several visitors, but apparently we have been doing terribly at taking pictures of him with different people.  Some of the most important people are his grandparents and we did get some pictures of him with his Happah and Nana, and a couple with his Sani in the background.  Sani stayed with us for 4 days and helped out so much.  When she left Patrick and I realized we would have to clean the kitchen by ourselves again!  Sad times.
Happah.
Nana.
Three living grandparents.
Having two nursing children has been an adventure so far.  Connor is dealing with it pretty well, but he does get jealous of times when Eamon is nursing.  He doesn't always like to share, but usually is okay with it for a little while.  Connor confusingly says, "Hold baby Eamon," when he wants someone to take Eamon from me so he can have me all to himself.  It took us a while to realize he wasn't asking to hold Eamon himself.  Patrick was able to get two pictures of me nursing both of them that are completely G-rated.
On the couch.
At bedtime.  While reading a book.  Gotta do what you gotta do.
We had been asking Connor is he wanted to hold Eamon, and he had been saying no.  We didn't want to pressure him, but have it come organically.  Finally, he did and it was so sweet!  He kept pointing out Eamon's different features, and almost poking him in the eye while doing so.  Eamon was a good sport.
Mouth!
Sweetest snugglers ever.
I love Connor's suspicious look.
On Tuesday we took Eamon for his weigh in appointment.  When he left the hospital, he was down from his birth weight of 9 lbs 6 oz to 8 lbs 12 oz.  At his appointment, he was 9 lb 12 oz and had grown half an inch.  So Connor wins in the whole weight-gained-after-the-hospital, but Eamon is such a chunk!  I'm guessing he'll be at 10 lbs soon!

Connor is ready to meet his new brother!

I left the hospital to come home and be with Connor tonight. Tomorrow I will take him to the hospital to meet his new brother Eamon, and we will all come home together as a family. He watched the videos I took of Eamon with me, smiling really sweetly. He poked out his bottom lip when he saw his mama, as if to say, "I miss you so much!"

Connor's Aunt Sassy sent me this picture while she was taking care of him.
Then tonight when he was reading Peekaboo, when he read the page about the tickle monster he would tickle himself.  I thought it was so funny and managed to get a little video of it.

Becca and I want to thank Jessica and Aunt Sassy for taking such good care of Connor while his mama and dada were away at the hospital! It gave us great peace of mind to know that he was happy and well cared-for.

Hello World++

Becca and I are happy to announce the newest addition to the Jemison House, Eamon Neel Jemison! He was born at 7:12 this morning, and weighing in at 9 lb, 6 oz, he is a stout little guy! We think he has the weight record on both sides of the family. Hearing him cry this morning for the first time was a wonderful shared moment between his mama and me. Today was also my mom's birthday, so it is a special link that he will always have with his Nana.

Does this look familiar to anyone? Hint: Go read the post from May 4, 2011!
Eamon has surprised us with how quiet and sleepy he has been all day. We know it's normal for a baby, but he has been so active during the pregnancy, constantly throwing little punches his mom's way. So far, when he's been with us in our room, he has only cried when he came un-swaddled. He loves being held and is noticeably more calm in our arms, even when he's asleep.

After a relatively short but very intense labor, Becca ended up having to go in for another c-section due to a body that wasn't cooperating.  Maybe it was a good thing, since baby boy was so big!

Here are some pictures from our first moments with Eamon, after the c-section. This time Becca did not have to go under general anesthesia, so she was able to experience our meeting with Eamon together with me!

Mama loves you, Eamon!

She couldn't resist giving you kisses right away!

Dada loves you too, Eamon!

Not sure if you can see my happy tears here, but they're there.
After Eamon spent some time with Mama, I got to take him back and give him his first bath. I took a few pictures of the little cleaned-up guy.

Welcome to the family, Eamon! We are looking forward to getting to know your personality in the coming weeks, and we're excited to introduce you to your brother as soon as we can!

This is Connor wearing his "Eamon shirt" that he especially requested yesterday. He is excited to be your big brother!

Waiting on Eamon

Hey Eamon! You can come any time!  We are ready and waiting for you!  Whenever you're ready, son!

This was the last time we got to see you.  Next time we get to hold you!
By the way, here's what your mama looks like right now while you're still hitching a ride.

She is VERY ready for you to be born!
